The Company was dispatched to the 1000 Blk of Yeadon Ave to assist Station
16 for a building fire. Members were in the process of putting newly
acquired hose into service at the time of the alarm allowing Engine 24 to hit
the street in seconds. Units were advised by fireboard that police were
on location reporting smoke showing from the second floor. Medic 16
arrived and gave the initial report of a two story twin, with smoke showing,
from the second floor and no one home. Engine 24 arrived on the scene and
secured their own water supply in front of the address. The crew forced
entry so their officer and tip-man could advance a 1 3/4 inch hand line to the
second floor and extinguish the fire in the rear bedroom. 16-9B (Kunkle) had the Yeadon Ave
command and assigned E16 (Yeadon) the rear and T19 (Lansdowne) the front of the
building. While the hose team handled the fire room, the E24 Driver and
outside crew placed two ladders to the dwelling, forced the rear door for E16,
and started ventilation of the second floor. RIT came from Station 03 (Clifton
Heights). The job was under control shortly after the first 10 minute
mark and overhaul complete within the hour. While units were still on
scene, a minor heater backfire was handled at a couple of doors away.
